How Deep Should Your Inground Pool Be
As opposed to above ground pools which are semi-permanent, inground pools are permanent, addition to your home that creates a personal getaway that also adds to your property value. When building a backyard pool with leading contractors like Seaway Pools & Hot Tubs, you will have the opportunity to customize every element of its design from the materials used to the depth. The ideal depth will depend on a number of factors. To determine the best option for your pool installation, book a consultation with the award-winning experts at Seaway Pools & Hot Tubs. For over 40 years, we have been Ontario’s go-to choice for backyard swimming pool construction, pool supplies, services and maintenance, and so much more.
Here are a few factors to consider when deciding the perfect depth for your home swimming pool.
Pool Use
The first thing to keep in mind before your pool installation is what will the pool be used for. If you’re using it for lane swims, you might prefer to keep the pool more leveled. Whereas, if you’re looking to practice your dives, it might be worth considering something deeper.
Safety and Code Requirements
Safety and legal requirements can vary. Where you live, how much space you have and the type of pool you want are all factors that can determine what depth your pool needs to be. In most places, you’ll need a permit, and will have to adhere to a maximum and/or minimum depth.
Diving Boards and Slides
Accessories like diving boards and slides can be a great way to add some amusement to your pool experience, however, they do come with additional safety requirements. You’ll want at least 8 feet of depth in your deep end, preferably more if you plan to have taller adults diving as well.
Water Features
If you’re looking to elevate the relaxation of your pool, you should consider adding water features. From underwater jets to above ground fountains or water bowls, there’s plenty of options to choose from. Whatever feature you choose can have an effect on the amount of space you have for your pool and how deep the pool can be in that space.
Standard Pool Depth
The average inground pool is about 3 feet in the shallow end and 8 feet in the deep end with a transitional slope to six feet in the middle. Lap pools tend to be closer to 3-5 feet deep, similarly sport pools tend to be between 3.5 and 4 feet deep. However, if you love plunge pools, you’ll likely be looking at 4-8 feet in depth. Typically plunge pools, though smaller, are often built to be deeper than traditional pools. If you’re considering a small swimming pool, work with Ontario’s original plunge pool masters to create a unique and luxurious design.
