Guide to Taking Care of Your Hot Tub
Caring for your hot tub is an important part of home maintenance. Whether you have a brand-new hot tub or are a seasoned hot tub owner, there are several important steps for taking care of your tub. In this blog post, we have helped organize a list of easy steps for maintaining your hot tub. Everything outlined in the guide below is available through Seaway Pools and Hot Tubs online hot tub store.
Water Chemistry
Balancing your water chemistry is an essential part of hot tub maintenance. You will need to test your water frequently to ensure the sanitizer and pH are properly balanced. Most pool and hot tub stores offer a free water testing service, or you can test the water yourself with a home kit.
Clean the Spa Filter
In a hot tub, the spa filter is usually found under the skimmer basket. Your spa filter should be replaced every 1-2 years and it should be cleaned about once per month. It can be cleaned with water from your tap or hose and promptly replaced in the tub to continue filtering the water.
Clean the Spa
A full cleaning of the surfaces in your hot tub can help prevent the build-up of grime and algae and prevent a visible water line from forming. Every 3-4 months, you should completely drain the hot tub and then wash the surfaces with a mild disinfectant. However, do not use household cleaners on the surface. Instead, use a spa cleaner spray which can be purchased through an online hot tub store. Once your spa is clean, make sure all the cleaner is removed before refilling the tub with water from your hose.
Air It Out
Although spas require water to function, built-up moisture can affect the longevity of your spa accessories. Spa covers need to be aired out approximately twice per week. Leave the cover for a few hours to allow it to completely cool and dry away from the heat of the hot tub. Otherwise, keep your cover on the hot tub to help keep heat in the tub and reduce your energy costs.
Add Fill Water
If your skimmer is sucking air instead of water, it can damage the pump. Try to maintain the water level so that it falls in the middle of the skimmer. Using a garden hose, fill the tub whenever you notice the water level dipping.
